Balanced Offense Ignites Eagles Over Lions

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team (5-9, 4-6 NEAC) used a big second half to down Bryn Athyn College, 84-70 on Tuesday evening.

Jason Saldiveri paced the Eagles, finishing with a game-high 27 points on 10-15 from the floor, seven rebounds and six assists. Cameron Tucker added a career-high 19 points while Marlon Hart pitched in with 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Eagles came out strong in the first seven minutes of play, taking a 16-6 lead behind back-to-back buckets by Saldiveri. The Lions would score the next six points to close the gap to four. After CSE re-upped the lead to ten, the Lions scored the next eight points to get within two. With the game tied at 29, the Lions scored eight of the next nine points to take a 37-30 lead into halftime.

CSE stormed out of the gate in the second half, scoring 14 of the first 18 points to take a 44-41 lead with 14:15 remaining in the game. After the Lions got within one with seven minutes remaining, Saldiveri drove to the lane, scored the basket and got fouled, giving the Eagles a 64-60 lead. CSE would tack on the next 10 points to open up its largest lead of the game at 74-60. CSE would not allow Bryn Athyn to get back within double-digits before taking the contest by 14.

The Eagles scored 38 points in the paint compared to 28 for Bryn Athyn. CSE also had seven blocks and forced 20 turnovers in the win.

CSE returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Penn College for a 2pm tip.
