Lady Eagles Fly Past Bison

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (8-5, 6-2 NEAC) used a strong first half to power past Gallaudet University, 66-34 on Saturday afternoon.

Deja Ingram had a stellar game for the Eagles, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Donnae Days also had a solid game down low, finishing with nine points and six rebounds while Damaris King added eight points for CSE.

Both teams struggled from the floor to start the game as Deja Ingram made the first field goal with 6:01 remaining in the quarter to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. CSE would dominate the remainder of the quarter, holding Gallaudet scoreless and adding 11 more points to take a 16-4 lead into the second quarter.

After the Bison sliced the lead to 11 to open the second quarter, Ashley Morera made a layup on a put-back under the basket, and got fouled to regain a 23-9 lead. The Eagles defense would continue to suffocate the Bison, allowing just 11 points in the half as CSE took a 31-11 lead into the break. CSE held Gallaudet to just 14.8% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers.

Jasmine Poole scored the first four points of the third quarter for the Eagles to open up a 36-12 lead. With 2:24 remaining in the quarter, King knocked down her first three-pointer of the game to give CSE a 25 point lead, its largest of the game. After taking a 23 point lead into the final period, the Eagles lead ballooned to as much as 32 in the final quarter, before taking the contest 66-34.

CSE returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Wilson College at 12 pm.
