Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's men's basketball team's (3-9, 2-6 NEAC) upset bid of first place Gallaudet University, fell just short on Saturday afternoon, dropping the game 70-64.
Jason Saldiveri once again led the Eagles on offense, finishing with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Marlon Hart and
Cameron Tucker finished with ten points a piece while
Tino Gonzalez added nine points and six rebounds.
After the Bison took a 15-9 lead early in the first half, the Eagles rolled off an 11-4 run behind seven straight points by Gonzalez, to take a 21-19 lead. Both teams went back and forth over the next five minutes as the score became all squared at 27 with four minutes to play. The Bison ended the half strong, finishing on a 9-2 run to take a 36-29 lead into halftime.
Gallaudet opened the second half by taking its first double-digit lead of the game at 41-30. CSE refused to go away however, quickly running off a 9-0 run to get within two. The Bison opened up the led again to seven before the Eagles fought back, cutting the deficit to 48-47. With 6:08 to go in regulation, Saldiveri knocked down two free-throws to give the Eagles its first lead of the second half at 53-52.
Both teams would trade buckets over the next three minutes before
Roland Romano made a driving layup to get the Eagles within 61-59 with three minutes to play. The Eagles could not manage to get closer then three the remainder of the game before falling 70-64.
CSE returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Wilson College at 2 pm.
