Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (3-2, 0-0 NEAC) came out strong and never looked back, downing The King's College of New York, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, and 25-14) on Tuesday evening.
In the first set, the Eagles got out to an early 5-3 lead. Tied at 8-8, Mikaela Gongora served five straight points, giving the Eagles a 13-8 lead. CSE and the Lions went back and forth for the majority of the set, as the Eagles prevailed, 25-17.
In the second set, Nicole Morera kept the Eagles on track, serving four straight points to open up an 11-7 lead. Despite the Lions hanging tough, the Eagles continued to apply pressure, opening up an 18-12 lead. CSE would continue its strong performance in the set, taking it 25-15.
Leading 10-7 in the third set, Rhonyelle Sowell served a perfectly placed ace to open up a four point lead for the Eagles. Sowell continued to dominate on serve, scoring six more points to open up a nine point advantage for CSE. The Eagles would not relinquish the lead, taking the final set, 25-14.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they take on Thursday when they travel to NJCU for a 7 pm start.
