Eagles Rally in Game Two to Split with Gallaudet

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (8-9, 1-1 NEAC) completed a five run comeback in game two to win, 7-5, after losing game one, 7-6.

In the top of the first of game one, the Bison struck first, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. After Gallaudet added a run in the top of the second, the Eagles scored their first run of the game on a wild pitch. During the same at bat, Rachael Romer lined a two-run single to left to tie the score at three. The Eagles added one more run in the inning to take a 4-3 lead into the third inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Samantha Albertson smacked a two-run double to right to give the Eagles a 6-3 lead. In the top of the sixth, Gallaudet's offense got going, scoring three runs on three consecutive hits to tie the score at six. Neither team was able to score in the seventh inning, leading to extra innings. In the top of the 8th, the Bison plated their seventh run of the game to take a 7-6 lead. CSE was unable to score in the bottom of the inning, dropping the game 7-6.

In game two, the Bison jumped out to an early lead once again, scoring one run to take a 1-0 lead. The Bison added another run in the second, as the Eagles were held scoreless and just two hits through the first four innings. Gallaudet tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, opening up a 5-0 lead of the Eagles.

Allie Jenkins finally got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the sixth, lining an RBI single to right to get the Eagles within four.  Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Sharolin Sanders hit a three-run single to slice the deficit to one. Two batters later, after the Eagles tied the score, Romer smashed a two-run single to center, giving the Eagles a 7-5 lead. Romer held the Bison down in the top of the seventh on the mound, completing the comeback for CSE.

Romer collecting three hits, 4 RBI's and her third win of the season on the mound for the Eagles. Sanders added two hits and 3 RBI's over the two games while Jenkins has two hits and a RBI.

CSE returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Penn State Berks for a 3 pm start.
