Offense Ignites in Sweep over York

Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (16-19, 5-11 NEAC) exploded on offense in a sweep over York College, winning game one, 14-1 and game two, 9-1.

After York scored a run in the top of the first, Allie Jenkins roped a two-run double to left center and scored on an error by the left fielder, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.  After the Eagles added two more runs, Passaro smacked a triple to right, blowing the game open at 7-1 in the first inning.

After the Eagles added a run in the bottom of the second, Danesha Triplett smashed her third home run of the season to left field, giving CSE a 9-1 lead. CSE would tack on four more runs over the next two innings to take the game 14-1 in five innings.

Marielis Alicea picked up the win on the mound in game one, improving her record to 6-6.

In game two, Triplett got the Eagles on the board with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Julie Rodriguez reached on an infield hit with the bases loaded, giving CSE a 2-0 lead.

Despite York cutting the lead to one in the third inning, the Eagles fought back with two in the bottom half of the inning to open up a 4-1 lead. In the top of the fifth, Albertson made the defensive play of the game, making a beautiful diving catch at shortstop.

The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning to gain a 6-1 advantage over York.  After adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, Albertson scored on a wild pitch, giving the Eagles the 9-1 victory in six innings.

Rachael Romer picked up her fifth win of the season, giving up just three hits while striking out four. Julie Rodriguez picked up three hits, two runs scored and a RBI in game two. Albertson and Triplett each had three hits over the two games.

CSE returns to action on Saturday when they host Penn State Abington on Senior Day at 12 pm.
