Lancaster, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (13-16, 4-8 NEAC) used an epic six-run seventh inning rally with two outs in game two to split a pair with Lancaster Bible; dropping game one, 12-9 followed by a 10-8 win in game two.
In game one,
Alyssabel Garcia smacked her second home run of the season in the second inning, a two-run homer to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, the Eagles continued their hot start, scoring four more runs to open up a 6-0 lead.
Allie Jenkins had a RBI single in the inning, while the other three runs were scored on errors by Lancaster.
Despite the six-run lead, the Chargers stormed right bck, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take their first lead of the game at 7-6. After Lancaster added another run in the fourth, the Eagles fought right back as Jenkins lined a two-run single in the sixth, tying the score at nine. CSE could not hold the lead however, as Lancaster scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking the game 12-9.
CSE jumped out to an early lead again in game two as
Rachael Romer lined a RBI double to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Like game one, the Chargers opened a lead with a big inning, scoring six runs in the second to take a 6-1 lead. The Eagles would claw their way back in the top of the third inning as
Danesha Triplett singled home
Heather Passaro while Romer scored from second on an error, slicing the deficit to three. Garcia, the next batter, lined a single to left, scoring Triplett and getting the Eagles within two.
Lancaster added two runs in the bottom half of the third inning to regain a four-run lead. Both the Eagles and Chargers were held scoreless over the next two innings as Lancaster took an 8-4 lead into the top of the seventh. After Lancaster got the first two batters to ground out, the next three Eagles reached base, loading the bases. With two outs and the bases loaded, Triplett smashed a three-run double in the gap, getting the Eagles to within one. After Garcia was intentionally walked and
Marielis Alicea reached on a walk,
Sharolin Sanders roped a single to center, driving in 2 RBI's while Alicea scored on an error, giving the Eagles a three-run lead. Jenkins held the Chargers down in the bottom of the inning, giving the Eagles an epic come from behind win.
Jenkins picked up her fifth win of the season in game two, pitching the final two innings. At the dish, Triplett had a phenomenal day, finishing 6-8 with 4 RBI's.
Samantha Albertson, Passaro and Jenkins added three hits a piece for the Eagles.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Gallaudet University for a 2 pm start.
