Abington, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (10-15, 1-7 NEAC) was edged in a doubleheader sweep to Penn State Abington, 5-3 and 6-5 on Saturday afternoon.
Abington scored the first three runs in the game, platting a run in the second and two runs in the third inning. In the top of the fourth inning,
Danesha Triplett reached on an error, driving in
Samantha Albertson for the first run of the game for the Eagles. CSE added another unearned run in the top of the fifth inning, however, the Nittany Lions got the run right back in the bottom half of the inning.
Trailing 5- 2 in the top of the seventh, Albertson lined a RBI single to left, scoring
Heather Passaro to get the Eagles within 5-3. Despite having the tying runners on base, the Eagles were unable to score any more runs, dropping game one, 5-3.
In game two, CSE scored two early runs in the top of the first inning. Triplett had a bases loaded walk, which was followed by a
Kayla Gonzalez RBI groundout. In the bottom of the second, the Nittany Lions scored two runs to tie the score at two. After two scoreless innings by both team, Triplett gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead with a RBI single to left.
Marielis Alicea followed with a two-run single, giving the Eagles a 5-2 lead.
Abington got two runs back in the bottom half of the fifth, getting with 5-4. After CSE held the Nittany Lions down in the bottom of the sixth, the Nittany Lions tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out. With a runner on second and one out, Abington lined a walk off double, taking the game 6-5.
CSE returns to action on Monday when they host Lancaster Bible at 3 pm.
