Brooklyn, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (10-13, 1-5 NEAC) swept a pair of games from Brooklyn College, 17-2 and 10-5 on Thursday evening.
The Eagles offense exploded in the second inning of game one, scoring seven runs in the inning.
Heather Passaro,
Samantha Albertson and
Morgan Sim had RBI singles in the inning, while
Danesha Triplett ripped a RBI triple.
After
Allie Jenkins added a RBI triple in the third inning, the Eagles offense continued their onslaught in the fifth inning, scoring eight more runs to take a 17-0 lead. Passaro and Sim each had a two-run single in the inning. Alberston, Triplett, and
Kayla Miessau added a RBI base hit in the inning.
On the mound,
Marielis Alicea spun a gem, earning her third victory of the season. Alicea pitched a five inning complete game, giving up just four hits and two runs while striking out three batters.
In game two, Brooklyn College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. After
Morgan Sim added a RBI single in the second inning,
Allie Jenkins belted her first home run of the season in the third inning, tying the score at two. Following a scoreless fourth inning, Alyssabel Garcia lined a RBI double in the top of the fourth inning, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs fought right back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to retake a 4-3 lead.
Rachael Romer gave the Eagles the lead again in the top of the fifth, singling in two runs to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead. Jenkins followed suit with a two-run triple, opening up a three run lead for CSE. The Eagles would add two more runs in the inning to take a 9-4 lead.Â
Brooklyn scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Jenkins knocked in her fourth run of the game in the top of the seventh, putting the game away for the Eagles.
Jenkins had three hits, including her first career home run, and four RBI's at the dish, while pitching a complete game and striking out eight on the mound.
The doubleheader sweep improves the Eagles to 10-13 on the season. CSE will look to get within one game of .500 on Saturday when they travel to Penn State Abington for a 1 pm start.
