Softball Drops Two to Berks

Morristown, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (8-13, 1-5 NEAC) fell in both ends of a doubleheader, 9-0 and 8-2 on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first inning by both teams in game one, Berks exploded in the second inning, hitting three home runs and scoring seven runs to give the Nittany Lions a 7-0 lead. Jess Rozick dominated on the mound through the first two innings for Berks, recording all six outs by strikeout.

In the top of the fourth inning, Ashley Malek hit her second home run of the game for the Nittany Lions to open a 9-0 lead on the Eagles. In the bottom of the fouth, Heather Passaro was the first Eagle to reach third base after her second bunt single of the day, but CSE was unable to drive her in. The Eagles were not able to produce any runs in the fifth inning, dropping the contest 9-0 in five innings.

In game two, the Eagles started the game with back to back bunt singles by Passaro and Christina Scolaro. Despite Sam Albertson reaching on an error to load the bases, the Eagles were unable to score a run in the inning. In the top of the third inning, Berks scored the first run of the game off two errors by the Eagles, leading to an unearned run.

Berks tacked on a run in the top of the fourth and top of the fifth to open up a 3-0 lead on the Eagles. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles threatened with runners on first and third, but Sharolin Sanders struck out to end the inning.  Berks added five more runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking an 8-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles finally got on the board with back to back RBI ground outs by Scolaro and Allie Jenkins. CSE was unable to score any more runs in the inning, falling 8-2.

Passaro finished the day with two hits in each game to lead the Eagles at the dish. Marielis Alicea added two hits in the second game.

CSE returns to action on Tuesday when they host Wilson College at 3 pm.
