Eagles Upended in Final Two Games in South Carolina

North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (3-6, 0-0 NEAC) dropped two tough contests on the final day in Myrtle Beach, 2-1 to Mount Aloysius and 11-0 to St. Joseph's Long Island.

Game one started off as a pitcher's duel, as both teams allowed just one hit and no runs through the first two innings.  Rachael Romer continued to spin a gem on the mound, allowing just one hit over the next two innings, keeping the game scoreless through four innings.

After two more scoreless innings by Romer, the Eagles struck first in the bottom of the sixth when Allie Jenkins ripped a RBI double to left, scoring the first run of the game. In the top of the seventh inning, Mount Aloysis struck, scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead into the final half inning. CSE was unable to score any runs in the bottom of the seventh, dropping the game 2-1.

In game two, St. Joseph's got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, St. Joseph's opened up a commanding 8-0 lead, scoring six runs off seven hits in the inning.

After a 32 run outburst yesterday, the Eagles struggled at the plate, getting just three hits through the first four innings. St. Joseph's added three more runs in the top of the fifth, opening an 11-0 lead. CSE went quiet in the bottom of the fifth after a lead off single by Sharolin Sanders, going scoreless and dropping the contest 11-0.

The Eagles finishes their spring break trip 3-6 with wins over Wentworth, Summit and NJCU. CSE returns to the diamond on Tuesday when they host Baruch College in their first home double-header of the season.
