Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) defeated Penn State Berks for its first NEAC win of the season, 80-58 on Tuesday evening.
Senior
Jasmine Poole paced the Eagles with her first double-double of the season, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Danesha Triplett poured in 17 points and grabbed five rebounds while
Deja Ingram added 11 points and 13 boards in the victory.
After Berks took an early 7-5 lead in the first quarter, the Eagles ran off an 8-0 run in a two minute span to open up a six point lead. Leading 16-12,
Ashley Morera sank a three-pointer from the corner as the first quarter expired to give the Eagles a seven point lead after ten minutes of play.
Poole stormed out of the gate in the second period, scoring the first six points to give the Eagles a 25-12 lead. CSE would not allow the Nittany Lions to get to within single digits for the remainder of the quarter. With one second remaining before half, Morera hit her second buzzer beater of the game, upping the lead to 34-22 heading into halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, Triplett nailed a jumper from the key to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game at 16. After Berks trimmed the lead to 10 with 2:42 remaining in the quarter, CSE finished the period on a 9-1 run to take an 18 point with ten minutes remaining.
The Eagles continued to force turnovers in the fourth quarter has the lead ballooned to 22 with 5:50 remaining in the game. Both teams traded buckets for the remainder of the game as the Eagles took the contest, 80-58.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Penn State Abington at 1 pm.
