Strong Second Half Lifts Eagles over Abington

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (3-2, 1-1 NEAC) used a strong second half to defeat Penn State Abington, 72-56 on Saturday afternoon.

Jasmine Poole had another stellar game for the Eagles, finishing with 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Deja Ingram added 11 points and a season-high 17 rebounds while Rakiyah Sellers had a career-high 17 points off the bench.

After the Nittany Lions took an 18-16 lead into the second quarter, Abington continued their hot start, opening up a seven-point lead with 5:28 remaining until halftime. After the Eagles got to within three, Poole drained a three-pointer from the corner to square the score at 33. With two seconds remaining in the half, Poole made a layup under the basket to give CSE a 35-33 lead heading into halftime.

Ingram scored three of the first five points for the Eagles to start the third quarter, upping the lead to seven. Despite a strong start to the quarter, the Nittany Lions fought back, regaining a 44-43 lead with 3:07 to go in the third period. The Eagles defense would lock down over the last three minutes, holding Abington to just three points while scoring nine, giving CSE a 52-47 lead going to the final quarter.

After Abington scored the first bucket of the fourth period, CSE went on an 8-0 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 11. The Eagles used another 8-0 run over a 2-1/2 minute span to take a 15-point lead with 30 seconds remaining. Poole put home a layup in the closing seconds to seal the 16-point victory.

CSE returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a 12 p.m. tip.
