Mahwah, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's basketball team (1-0, 0-0 NEAC) picked up its first victory of the season over St. Joseph Brooklyn, 77-56 on Friday evening in the first round of the Roadrunner Tip-Off.
Jasmine Poole paced the Eagles with a game high 26 points, eight steals and eight rebounds.
Danesha Triplett added a solid game herself, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds while
Rakiyah Sellers scored 13 points in her first collegiate game.Â
The Bears led throughout most of the first quarter, pushing the lead to as high as seven before the Eagles ended the first period with a late three by Poole, cutting the deficit to 19-15 heading to the second quarter.
Early in the second quarter,
Alivia Roseboro knocked down her first bucket of the game to give CSE a 22-20 lead. Despite both teams trading baskets for the majority of the quarter, the Bears ran off a 7-2 run in the closing three minutes, taking a 36-31 lead into the break.
After the Bears took a six point lead midway through the third quarter, the Eagles ripped off an 11-0 run to open up a five-point lead. CSE's defense continued to be stiffening in the quarter, forcing 10 turnovers and allowing just nine points as the Eagles took a five point lead into the final quarter.
With a five point lead heading into the final period, the Eagles blew the game open in the first four minutes, tearing off a 13-2 run to take a 63-49 advantaged. CSE continued to open the lead in the final minutes before taking the game 77-56.
CSE held the Bears to just 34.8% shooting from the floor while forcing 26 turnovers. The Eagles shot a respectable 42% while grabbing 47 rebounds, four more then the Bears.
With the win, the Eagles advance to Saturday's final of the Ramapo Roadrunner Tip-Off and will face the winner of Ramapo and John Jay at 2 pm.
