Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (7-10, 3-6 NEAC) took down York College of New York in straight sets, (25-0, 25-17, 25-17) on Friday evening.
The first set was forfeited by York College due to showing up 50 minutes late.
In the second set, the Eagles jumped out quickly, taking a 12-5 lead thanks to solid play offensively. Late in the set the Eagles forced three unforced errors, taking the set 25-17. CSE had 11 kills on 27 attempts in the set.
Trailing 5-0 in the third set,
Mikaela Gongora got the Eagles going, serving five straight points to give CSE a 6-5 lead, leading to a York timeout. Following the timeout, Gongora continued her dominating serve, scoring five more points to open up a six-point lead for the Eagles. CSE would continue to dominate, taking the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
Yasmin'na Muhammad finished with a team high eight kills on 16 attempts. Gongora added four kills and nin service aces while
Nicole Morera chipped in with 17 assists.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a 1 pm start.
