Eagles Send Seniors Out in Style

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's women's volleyball team (10-12, 5-8 NEAC ) played their best match of the season on senior night, sweeping William Paterson, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) on Thursday evening.

The Eagles came out hot out of the gate as Stephanie Mitarotonda served four straight points to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead. CSE continued to be aggressive in the set, opening up an 11-4 lead, leading to a William Paterson timeout. Later in the set, Stacey Medina served three straight points to open up the Eagles largest lead of the match at 12. After the Pioneers won four straight points on match point, Nicole Morera put away the set winning kill, giving the Eagles the 25-18 win.

After a back and forth battle midway through the second set, senior Kiana Cunningham served back to back aces to give the Eagles a 21-18 lead. CSE would not let William Paterson get any closer, taking the set 25-20. In the set, the Eagles had 13 kills on 34 attempts, a .206 attack percentage.

Leading 10-7 in the third set, Julia Misiejuk smashed a perfectly placed kill to open up a four point lead for the Eagles. The Eagles continued to pour it on in the set, scoring three consecutive points to open up the largest lead of the set at seven. The Pioneers fought back midway through the set, scoring six straight points to cut the lead to one. After trading points for the majority of the final set, Muhammad shut the door on match point, slamming a kill to give the Eagles the 25-22 win.

The Eagles finished with 45 kills, 44 assists, ten blocks and eight service aces. Individually, Yasmin'na Muhammad had another stellar game, finishing with 16 kills on 33 attempts. In her final match at CSE Morera finished with 43 assists, six digs and two kills.

Before the match, Kiana Cunningham, Nicole Morera and Ayesha Brannon were honored as part of senior night. The three student-athletes were presented with framed photos to commemorate their experience at CSE.

CSE returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Alvernia for a tri-match starting at 12 pm.
