Lancaster, Pa. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (9-12, 5-8 NEAC) rallied from 2-0 deficit to defeat Penn College, 3-2 (14-25, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-10) on Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the first two sets 25-14 and 25-17, the Eagles battled back to take the third set, 25-21. CSE played much better on attack, finishing the set with 14 kills on 31 attempts, a .323 attack percentage. In the fourth set, the Eagles continued their offensive attack, finishing the set with 14 kills on 42 attempts, taking the set 25-21 and tying the match at two.
With the match headed to the deciding set, the Eagles jumped out to an 8-4 lead thanks to three service points by
Yasmin'na Muhammad. After Penn got to within 9-8, CSE won the next three points to regain a four-point lead. Having four chances to end the match,
Stacey Medina blocked an attack by the Wildcats, giving the Eagles the 15-10 win and completing the comeback for the Eagles.
Kiana Cunningham finished with a game high 17 kills and nine digs. Muhammad had another solid all-around match, finishing with 16 kills, four service aces and two blocks. As a team, the Eagles ended with 50 kills on 167 attempts.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles fell to Lancaster Bible College, 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 14-25, 18-25). Muhammad and Cunningham had team high ten kills while Stephanie Mitarotond had 14 digs.
On Friday night, the Eagles were edged by Penn State Berks, 3-1 (13-25, 25-22, 10-25, 12-25). Muhammad lead the Eagles once again with ten kills, three service aces and a block.
Nicole Morera added 26 assists and seven digs while Mitarotond had 16 digs.
CSE returns to action on Thursday for senior night when they host William Paterson at 7 pm.
