Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (3-6, 3-1 NEAC) defeated NEAC foe Penn State Berks, 79-57 on Thursday evening.
CSE jumped out of the gate early as Ashley pledger made a fast break layup to give the Eagles an 8-1 lead with 5:49 remaining in the first period. With 4:03 remaining in the quarter,
Jasmine Poole nailed her first of three three-pointers to give the Eagles a 13-4 lead. The Eagles ended the quarter on an 8-4 run to take a 21-8 lead into the second period.
Deja Ingram delivered down low once again for the Eagles, making back to back layups to give the Eagles a 31-13 lead. Penn State Berks would not go away easily, scoring the next six points to cut the Eagles lead to 31-19. Pledger would keep help keep the Eagles lead in double-digits, making a breakaway layup with one minute remaining, to give CSE a 37-23 halftime lead.
Poole continued her hot shooting in the second half, knocking down a corner jumper to give CSE a 46-25 lead with 7:28 remaining in the third period. After Berks got within 18,
Amerisse Rogers scored her first basket of the game to up the lead to 50-30.
Damaris King joined in the action with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter, hitting her first bucket of the game to give CSE a 55-36 lead heading to the final period.
Just 16 seconds into the fourth quarter,
LaChe Robinson drained her first three-pointer of the game, giving the Eagles a 22 point lead. The Eagles would trade buckets for most of the quarter with the Nittany Lions as the Eagles maintained a 19 point lead with 3 minutes remaining in the quarter. After the Eagles made four consecutive free throws, Poole knocked down another corner jumper to give the Eagles the 79-57 victory.
Jasmine Poole lead all scorers with 23 points and 8 rebounds.
Ashley Pledger added 18 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals while
Danesha Triplett chipped in with 13 points.
CSE returns to action this weekend when they travel to Wilson College and Gallaudet University for two key NEAC contests.
