Eagles End Game on 10-0 Run, Defeat Cobleskill 59-54

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (6-10, 6-5 NEAC), ended the game on a 10-0 run to defeat SUNY Cobleskill, 59-54 on Thursday night.

Amerisse Rogers lead the Eagles with a team high 14 points. Deja Ingram tallied 13 points and 7 rebounds while Jasmine Poole scored ten points, all coming in the second half. Shelby Preston led Cobleskill with 16 points.

Despite a slow start to the game, the Eagles found themselves leading 13-10 with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. LaChe Robinson knocked down a late jumper to give the Eagles a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles struggled from the floor in the second period, giving up a 9-1 run to start the quarter as Cobleskill opened up a 23-18 lead. CSE could not manage much offense in the quarter, scoring just six points as Cobleskill took a 24-21 lead into the halftime break.

After CSE got within 26-25 to start the third quarter, Cobleskill went on an 11-3 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 37-28. Trailing 41-29, CSE scored the final four points of the quarter to slice the deficit to 41-33.

Trailing by 11 midway through the fourth quarter, the Eagles offense came alive, ripping off a 9-1 run to get within 48-45. After Cobleskill regained an eight point lead, Poole scored four straight points to give CSE their first lead of the second half at 55-54. The Eagles defense suffocated Cobleskill in the closing minutes, forcing four turnovers in the final two minutes. Rogers sank four clutch free throws in the closing seconds as the Eagles ended the game on a 10-0 run.

The Eagles improve to 6-5 in the NEAC with the win. CSE returns to action on Saturday in an all important road contest at Penn College.
