Eagles Battle to the End, Fall to Gallaudet 62-59

Washington, D.C. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (4-7, 4-2 NEAC) could not hold on to a late fourth quarter lead, dropping a conference road game to Gallaudet University, 62-59 on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles were led early and often by Jasmine Poole, who scored 12 of the Eagles 14 points in the first quarter. After falling behind 12-4, Poole scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to one. Poole would add a late three-pointer as the Eagles trailed the Bison 16-14 at the end of the first period.

Sharolin Sanders knocked down her first basket of the game to begin the second quarter to give the Eagles their first lead at 18-16. The Bison regained a two point lead before Ashley Pledger made a driving layup to square the game up at 24. After both team traded the next 12 points, the Eagles ended the half on an 8-0 run to take a 38-30 lead into the halftime break.

To open up the third quarter, Deja Ingram made a layup in the paint to give CSE their first double-digit lead of the game. Leading 43-32, Danesha Triplett scored the next four points to open up the largest lead of the game at 15. The Eagles offense went cold for the remainder of the quarter as Gallaudet finished on a 14-0 run to cut the lead to 49-48.

After Gallaudet took a 50-49 lead, Poole knocked down a mid range jumper to give the Eagles a one point lead. After Ingram made a layup, Poole added another jumper to give CSE a 57-54 lead with 4 minutes remaining in the game. Gallaudet would score the next seven points to take a four point lead with 1:51 remaining in the contest. CSE would not back down as Triplett made a layup with 48 seconds remaining to get within two. After a Gallaudet free throw, MaryJane Gutierrez missed a game tying three-pointer as time expired to give Gallaudet the 62-59 victory.

Jasmine Poole lead the Eagles with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Danesha Triplett was stellar down low, scoring 12 points and grabbing 7 rebounds while Deja Ingram added 9 points and 13 rebounds.

The Eagles hit the road again on Tuesday when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a 7 pm tip.
