Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (2-2, 0-0) dominated from the start, beating Medgar Evers College 3-0 (25-5, 25-5, 25-4) on Tuesday night.
In the first set,
Nicole Morera got the Eagles out to a quick 5-0 lead thanks to 2 serves aces. Later in the set,
Mikaela Gongora smashed a perfectly placed kill to give the Eagles a commanding 12-1 lead. Leading 16-2,
Natasia Wilson ripped a spike off a Medgar Ever's defender to open up a 17-2 lead. CSE continued to pour it on, taking the set 25-5.
In set 2, Wilson gave the Eagles an early 7-2 lead behind 5 straight service points. Not to be outdone,
Ashley Morera 2 straight service aces and 6 service points overall to open up a 13-3 Eagles lead. Freshman
Vanessa Gallego got into the action with 6 service points of her own to open up a 16 point lead for the Eagles. Leading 21-4, Gongora smashed another perfectly placed kill to give the Eagles an 18 point lead. CSE would add 3 of the next 4 points to take the set 25-5.
Leading 2-1 in the third set,
Carolina Marte notched a service ace to give CSE a 3 point lead. With the Eagles up 10-2,
Kiana Cunningham put away a beautifully placed kill to open up a 9 point lead. Later on in the set,
Christy Marte put away the most exciting point of the set, giving the Eagles a 19-4 lead. The Eagles would end up winning the final 6 points to win the set 25-4 and the match 3-0.
The Eagles finished with 36 service aces in the three set match which is tied for 13th most in NCAA Division III history.
Ashley Morera finished with a game high 13 service aces, while
Renata Miranda finished with 6 digs. CSE returns to action on Saturday when they travel to New York to take on Pratt and NJCU in a tri-match.
