Eagles Make it 5 in a Row with Win Over King's

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team (5-2, 0-0 NEAC) won their 5th straight match after defeating The King's College N.Y. 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) on Wednesday night.

In the first set, Ashley Morera continued stellar serving, racking up back to back aces to give the Eagles a 5-2 lead. CSE and King's College traded points for the first half of the set as the game was tied at 13 midway through set 1. The Eagles kept applying pressure, taking a 19-16 lead, leading to a Lions timeout. Reigning NEAC Player of the Week Christy Marte helped the Eagles take 6 of the next 8 points to give the Eagles a 25-18 set 1 win.

In set 2, Nicole Morera got the Eagles out to a quick 4-0 lead behind 4 straight service points. After the Lions cut the lead to 7-5, Kiana Cunningham ripped a beautifully placed spike to give the Eagles an 8-5 lead. The match continued to go back in forth before the Eagles won 3 straight points, leading to a Lions timeout. Following the timeout, Ashley Morera dominated with her serve, giving the Eagles the next 7 points and winning the set 25-15.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the third set behind great net play by the Eagles. Ashley Morera once again dominated with her serve, adding 3 more points to open up an 8 point lead and another timeout by the Lions. CSE continued to pour it on, opening up a 19-7 lead late in set 3. Despite the Lions getting to within 20-12, the Eagles won 3 of the next 4 points to regain a 10 point lead. CSE would win 2 more points and take the game 3-0.

Carolina Marte finished with a team high 13 kills and 16 digs while Ashley Morera had a team high 5 service aces and 3 blocks. With the win, the Eagles now have won 5 straight matches including 15 straight sets.

The Eagles return to action this weekend when they travel to Morrisville State for their first NEAC cross over weekend of the season.
