Eagles Soar on First Day of NEAC Play

Morrisville, N.Y. - The Eagles extended their win streak to 7 games, defeating SUNY Cobleskill and Morrisville State on the first day of NEAC play.

In the game one, the Eagles took care of SUNY Cobleskill in 3 games (26-24, 25-13, 25-22). CSE battled back in set 1, coming back from 21-16 down to tie the score up at 23. After both teams traded points, CSE added the final 2 points to take the set 26-24. After dominating the second set 25-13, the Eagles found themselves tied at 15 in set 3. CSE took the next 4 points and never looked back, winning the final set 25-22.

Mikeala Gongora finished with a game high 13 kills and 2 service aces. Carolina Marte added 11 digs and 4 service aces while Nicole Morera tallied 30 assists for the Eagles. 

In game 2, the Eagles dropped the opening set for the first time in 18 sets, before battling back and taking the next 3, defeating Morrisville State in 4 sets (21-24, 25-18, 28-26, 25-22).  After splitting the first 2 sets, the came back from 4 down to take a 2 point lead midway through the first set at 13-11. Despite the lead, the Eagles found themselves facing set point twice before coming back and tying the game both times. With the score tied at 26, CSE managed to take the final two points to take a 2-1 seat lead. In the final set, CSE took control for the majority of the set, winning 25-22.

Carolina Marte finished with 16 kills and 14 digs. Nicole Morera added a season high 37 assists while her twin sister Ashley continued her stellar serving, adding 4 service aces. With the two wins, CSE has now won 7 in a row to improve their record to 7-2. The Eagles return to action tomorrow when they take on SUNY Poly at 11 am.
