Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (9-23, 3-13 NEAC) split a pair of games vs. Lancaster Bible, 6-3 and a 9-5 win on Thursday afternoon.
After Lancaster Bible scored a run in the top of the first, Alexandria Garcia tied the score up at 1 with a line drive home run to left field. In the top of the second, Garcia pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out 2 batters. In the top of the 3rd inning, Lancaster hit a 3-run home run to center to take a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th inning, after the Eagles scored a run, Alesandria DeSapio lined an RBI single up the middle to get the Eagles to within 4-3.
In the top of the 7th inning, Lancaster pushed across 2 runs to take a 6-3 lead heading to the bottom half of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, the Eagles put 2 runners on base but were unable to score, dropping the game 6-3.
In game 2, Christina Scolaro had a quick 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Alyssabel Garcia grounded an RBI fielder's choice to give CSE a 1-0 lead. Â After Lancaster tied the game at 1, Grace Bailey turned the Eagles first triple play in school history. Bailey caught the ball in right field, gunned the runner at home for the second out, which followed by Alyssabel Garcia throwing to Danesha Triplett at third base and tagging the runner for the triple play.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Scolaro lined an RBI single, scoring Valerie Lasko to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. After the Eagles put another runner on base, Alyssabel Garcia lined a 3-run homer off the left field foul pole to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead. Â Lancaster clawed their way back in the top of the 4th inning, scoring 3 runs to cut the Eagles lead to 5-4.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, The Eagles were helped with 2 errors by Lancaster, scoring 4 unearned runs. Valerie Lasko added an RBI single in the inning as CSE took a 9-4 lead into the 6th inning. Despite Lancaster adding a run in the 6th, they were unable to get any closer as the Eagles won the game 9-5. Scolaro picked up her first win of the season on the mound for the Eagles.
CSE returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet University at 12 pm.
