Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (8-22, 2-12 NEAC) dropped a pair of conference games to Penn State Berks, 17-4 and 15-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning after 2 errors accounted for 3 unearned runs. After a 15 minute rain delay, Berks added 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd inning to take an 8-0 lead. The Eagles bats were silenced through the first 3 innings, unable to get a base runner. Berks would continue to add on to the lead, scoring 8 runs in the 4th inning to take a 16-0 lead.
The Eagles finally got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning when Alexandria Garcia lined an RBI single to right field. With 2 runners on, the next batter Alyssabel Garcia, smashed her 4th home run in the past 3 games to get the Eagles to within 16-4. Berks added a run in the 5th inning to take the game 17-4.
The Eagles flashed some leather to start game 2 as Nicole Morera made a beautiful sliding catch for the first out of the game. The Eagles couldn't manage to hold Berks down for long as the Nittany Lions added 12 runs in the first inning to take a 12-0 lead. Berks added 3 more runs in the second inning to open up a 15-0 lead. Danesha Triplett flashed some leather after she caught a screaming line drive and then throwing to first for the double play.
The Eagles got on the board in the 4th inning after Alexandria Garcia drove home Christina Scolaro for their first run of the game. In the last inning, Alesandria DeSapio lined a triple to right field and scored on an error by the right fielder. CSE would be unable to add any more runs, dropping the game 15-2.
CSE returns to action on Thursday when they host Lancaster Bible at 3 pm.
