Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team (6-16, 2-8 NEAC) lost 2 hard fought games against Wilson College, 10-2 and 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Phoenix got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game 1 when Kayla Sullenberger hit a 2 run homer over the center field wall. In the bottom half of the first, Christina Scolaro got one of the runs back by lining an RBI single up the middle. Wilson College added 3 more runs in the top of the second inning to open up a 6-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, CSE loaded the bases with no outs before Alesandria DeSapio hit a sac fly to get the Eagles to within 6-2. In the top of the 5th inning, Wilson scored 4 runs to open up a 10-2 lead. The Eagles were unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the game 10-2 in 5 innings.
In game 2, Valerie Lasko smacked a leadoff home run to left field for her first of the season to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Alexandria Garcia looked sharp in the first few innings, throwing 3 no hit innings to start off the game. In the top of the 4th, Sullenberger hit her second home run of the day to tie the score up at 1. In the bottom half of the 4th inning, Christina Scolaro lead off with a triple down the left field line. 2 batters later, Alyssabel Garcia roped a single to center to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Garcia continued to dominate on the mound for CSE, giving up just 1 hit over the first 5 innings. Despite Garcia getting into some trouble in the 6th inning, she worked out of a 2nd and 3rd jam to keep the game at 2-1. In the top of the 7th, Wilson managed to push 3 runs across the plate to gain a 4-2 lead. The Eagles were unable to score any runs in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the game 4-2.
CSE returns to action on Thursday when they host Baruch College at 3 pm.
