Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (11-9, 9-6 NEAC) took down a much needed win, defeating Morrisville State 66-59 on Sunday.
Ashley Pledger started wherever she left off yesterday, scoring 7 early points to give the Eagles a 12-8 lead. The Mustangs from Morrisville would climb back into the game, taking a 17-12 lead with 7:33 remaining in the first half. Following a timeout, the Eagles ripped off a game changing 15-2 run to open up a 28-19 lead.
Alexandria Garcia would knock down her first three-pointer of the game with a minute remaining to give the Eagles a 31-22 halftime lead.
Amerisse Rogers drained her first three-pointer of the game at the 17:32 mark to give the Eagles their first double-digit lead of the game, 39-28. The Eagles would continue to open up the lead, as Rogers found
Danesha Triplett on an in-bounds play for an easy layup, giving CSE a 43-28 lead. The Mustangs wouldn't go away easy, cutting the lead to 53-45 with 5:30 minutes remaining in the game. Pledger would not let the Eagles lose, making a layup followed by 2 free throws to regain an 11 point lead. Morrisville would cut the lead to 6 but it would not be enough, as the Eagles held on for a 65-59 win.
Ashley Pledger lead the Eagles with 25 points.
Danesha Triplett added 8 points and 10 rebounds while
Amerisse Rogers grabbed 14 boards. CSE improves to 9-6 in the conference and 11-9 overall.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Keuka College at 1 pm.
