Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (10-9, 8-6 NEAC) beat Cazenovia College in an Overtime thriller, 81-77 on Saturday afternoon.
Alexandria Garcia got the Eagles on the board first, knocking down a three-pointer from the corner to tie the game up at 3. The Eagles took their first lead of the game when
Ashley Pledger knocked down her first three-pointer of the game, giving CSE the 17-16 lead. Cazenovia would go on a 9-0 run in the next 4 minute
s to open up a 25-17 lead. The Eagles would manage to get to within 35-30 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Wildcats would take their first double-digit lead of the game, 41-31 at the 18:09 mark. Pledger would lead the Eagles comeback, scoring 7 straight points to get the Eagles to within 54-51.
Sharolin Sanders made an open layup in the paint to give the Eagles their first lead of the second half, 56-54 with 11:22 remaining in the game. The Wildcats would hang tough, taking a 73-69 lead with 2:20 remaining. Trailing by 4 with 14 seconds remaining,
Alivia Roseboro caused a turnover and dished it to
Alexandria Garcia for the layup. Following a missed free throw by Cazenovia,
Sharolin Sanders knocked down a jumper to tie the score up and send the game into overtime.
In overtime,
Danesha Triplett scored a layup to give the Eagles their first lead of overtime, 77-75.
Amerisse Rogers and
Alexandria Garcia knocked down 4 straight free throws in the closing seconds to seal the 81-77 victory for the Eagles.
Ashley Pledger lead the Eagles with 26 points. With her family in the crowd from Texas,
Alexandria Garcia knocked down a season high 6 three-pointers, finishing with 20 points on the game.
Alivia Roseboro added 8 points, 14 assists, and 9 steals. At halftime, the basketball Alumni were honored. Cheyenne Grant was presented the ball from her 1,000 point game last season by President Helen Streubert. The Alumni played a game of their own following the CSE game.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they host Morrisville State at 1 pm.
