Ashley Pledger scored her 1,000th career point to help the Eagles mount a huge second half comeback, defeating Penn State Berks 74-71 on Wednesday night.
The Eagles (12-11, 10-8 NEAC) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead thanks to
Amerisse Rogers layup in the paint.
Ashley Pledger got knocked down a 3-pointer in the corner to give the Eagles a 19-12 lead with 11:59 remaining in the first half. The Eagles would continue to hold a lead until Berks tied the score up at 38 with 2:15 to go in the half. The Nittany Lions would score the final 5 points of the half to take a 46-41 lead into the break.
The Nittany Lions would continue to open up a lead in the second half, taking a 59-43 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Following a timeout,
Sharolin Sanders knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to 12. The Nittany Lions would retake a 16 point lead with 6 minutes remaining. The turning point in the game happened at the 5:27 mark when
Ashley Pledger made a driving layup for her 1,000th career point. The Eagles would use the momentum to get to within 70-66 behind back to back three-pointers by
Alexandria Garcia with 2 minutes remaining. Pledger would continue to attack, draining a jumper with 1:04 remaining to tie the game up at 71.
Amerisse Rogers would seal the game, knocking down 2 clutch free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 74-71 victory.
Ashley Pledger scored 21 points including her 1,000th career point. She became just the 12th Eagle in school history to accomplish the feat.
Amerisse Rogers added 19 points and 8 rebounds while
Alexandria Garcia added 16 points.
The Eagles look to keep their playoff hopes alive on Friday when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a 7 pm tip.
