Eagles Storm Past Phoenix for Second Straight Win

Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (2-2, 2-0 NEAC) jumped out early and never looked back, defeating Wilson College 81-46 on Sunday afternoon for their second straight win.

Deja Ingram exploded out of the gate in the first quarter, scoring seven of the first ten points for the Eagles to give CSE a 10-2 lead three minutes into the game. Jasmine Poole had a strong first quarter for the Eagles, dropping seven points in a five minute span to open up an 18-6 lead. After Wilson knocked down back to back three-pointers, Ashley Pledger made a driving layup to regain a ten point lead for the Eagles. CSE would add three more points in the quarter to take a 24-15 lead at the end of the first period.

The lead continued to grow in the second quarter after Pledger knocked down a three-pointer at the 4:46 mark to give the Eagles a 35-17 lead. With 3:20 remaining, Ingram converted a layup under the basket to give CSE a 20 point lead. The defense continued to play well in the second quarter, holding the phoenix to just seven points as the Eagles took a 38-21 lead into the break.

Amerisse Rogers got in the action in the second half, draining a three-pointer from the corner to give CSE a 21 point lead. Determined not to lead Wilson back in the game, the Eagles ripped off a 17-3 run to start the quarter, blowing the game open at 55-25. CSE kept applying pressure defensively, once again holding Wilson to under ten points in the quarter. CSE added a late bucket to take a 57-29 lead into the final period.

Taylor Foxworth joined the party in the fourth quarter, making a layup off a nice feed from Ingram to open up the largest lead of the game for the Eagles at 32. Pledger and Sharolin Sanders scored the next ten points for CSE to give the Eagles a 73-38 lead with two minutes remaining. Freshman MaryJane Gutierrez sank two late three-pointers as the Eagles rolled past Wilson 81-46.

Deja Ingram recorded her third double-double in four games, finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Pledger added 20 points while Jasmine Poole tallied 12 points and 9 rebounds.

CSE returns to action on December 19th when they travel to Old Westbury for a noon tip.
