Eagles Drop Consolation Game To Neighboring FDU

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (2-6, 2-1 NEAC) dropped the consolation game of the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Classic to FDU-Florham, 102-47 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils from FDU-Florham jumped out on an early 11-0 run, 6 minutes into the first quarter, leading to an Eagles timeout. Amerisse Rogers finally got the Eagles on the board, making a driving layup to bring the lead back to single digits. Jasmine Poole and Sharolin Sanders each made a late basket as the Eagles trailed 19-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles struggled from the floor in the first quarter, shooting just 25% from the field while adding 10 turnovers.

After FDU scored the first five points of the second quarter, Deja Ingram knocked down her first bucket of the game as the Eagles trailed 24-8 with 7:40 remaining in the half. Ashley Pledger scored seven of the next nine points for the Eagles but were not able to cut into the first half lead, trailing 41-19 at halftime. Pledger lead the Eagles with 7 points while Ingram added 6 points and 5 rebounds in the first half.

Sharolin Sanders scored the first basket of the third quarter for the Eagles as they trailed 47-21. Pledger added six points to add to a team high 13, as the Eagles trailed 75-33 at the end of the third quarter.

Despite the big deficit, the Eagles continued to play hard in the fourth quarter. CSE could not manage to cut into the lead, dropping the contest 102-47.

Ashley Pledger lead the Eagles with a team high 16 points and 4 rebounds. Deja Ingram notched her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds. MaryJane Gutierrez chipped in with seven points for the Eagles.

CSE returns to action on January 7th when they host Penn State Berks at 7 pm.
