Eagles Fall to Lehman in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (2-5, 2-1 NEAC) fell to Lehman College in the first round of the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, 78-50 on Tuesday afternoon.

The first quarter was a struggle for the Eagles, falling behind 9-2 midway through the first period. Deja Ingram broke the five minute scoreless drought, scoring a driving layup to get the Eagles within 13-4. Lehman would end the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 20-4 lead into the second quarter. 

CSE finally got their offense going to start the second quarter, going on a quick 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-13. With 3:13 remaining in the half, Ashley Pledger knocked down her third bucket of the game to get the Eagles within six. Despite cutting into the lead, Lehman ended the half by scoring six of the final eight points to take a 31-21 lead into halftime.  

Danesha Triplett scored the first basket of the third quarter to get CSE to within eight. Amerisse Rogers scored her first points of the game as CSE got to within 31-25 with eight minutes remaining in the quarter. Even though the Eagles go to within six, Lehman went on an 8-0 run to regain a 14 point lead. The Eagles continued to struggle from the floor in the third quarter, shooting just 26% from the floor in the quarter. Lehman ended the quarter on a 20-2 run to take a 59-30 lead into the final period.

Damaris King scored her first field goal of the game in the fourth quarter as the Eagles trailed 61-35 with six minutes remaining in the game. CSE was not able to make a run in the fourth quarter, dropping the contest, 78-50.

Deja Ingram recorded her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Danesha Triplett added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Eagles.

CSE returns to action on Wednesday when they play in the consolation game against FDU-Florham at 12 pm.
