Morristown, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (2-4, 2-1 NEAC) rallied from 17 down in the first half before ultimately dropping a heart breaker, 68-66 to Bryn Athyn on Monday night.
CSE had a sluggish start to the game in the first quarter, falling behind 10-4 with 6 minutes remaining in the first period.
Amerisse Rogers got the Eagles kick started, knocking down back to back three-pointers to get CSE within two. The Lions from Bryn Athyn opened up a late first quarter lead, ending the quarter on a 16-2 run to take a 28-12 lead at the end of the first period.
Jasmine Poole started out the second quarter by making a fast break layup to cut the deficit to 34-22. The lions regained a 39-22 lead with 2:22 remaining in the quarter, their largest lead of the game.
Danesha Triplett ended the half for the Eagles with a layup under the basket, bringing CSE to within 41-28 at the break.
The Eagles looked like a new team in the second half, causing six turnovers in the first five minutes to bring the Lions lead to 45-41. With 4:19 remaining in the quarter,
Ashley Pledger sunk a driving layup to give CSE their first lead of the game at 46-45.
Deja Ingram continued her hot start to the season, knocking down a jumper in the paint to tie the score at 50 at the end of the third period. The Eagles tenacious third quarter defense held Bryn Athyn to just nine points in the period.
Pledger stormed out of the gate for CSE to start the fourth quarter, scoring the first six points for the Eagles as they took their largest lead of the game, 56-52. Bryn Athyn clawed their way back as they regained a 63-60 lead at the 3:46 mark in the fourth quarter. CSE would not go away, however, as Rogers knocked down a jumper at the 1:11 mark to get the Eagles to within 65-64. After two free-throws by Kristina Clark, who finished with 35 points in the game, Triplett made a layup off a beautiful feed from Poole to get the Eagles back within one. After a made free throw by the Lions,
Sharolin Sanders had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, missing slightly long as Bryn Athyn took the game 68-66.
Pledger finished with a team high 18 points while Poole added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ingram ended the game with 9 points and 12 rebounds, finishing one point shy of her fifth double-double of the season. Rogers also added 12 points for the Eagles.
CSE returns to action on December 29th when they travel to Lehman College to take part in the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
