Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (6-5, 5-2 NEAC) won an overtime thriller, beating Bryn Athyn 76-71 on Thursday night.
Alivia Roseboro got the Eagles started right away in the first half, taking the opening tip and driving in for a layup. The Lions from Bryn Athyn went on a 7-0 run at the 16:00 minute mark to take a 7-4 lead. CSE would come back to tie the score up at 9 before the Lions went on an 11-0 run to open up a 21-9 lead.
Sharolin Sanders finally broke the run, nailing a three pointer from the corner to cut the deficit to 9. CSE would lock down on defense after the run, causing 4 turnovers and cutting the lead to 23-20. After the Lions took a 29-22 lead, Sanders nailed another 3 from the corner to get to within 4. Roseboro would add 2 late free throws to get the Eagles to within 29-27 at half.
Alexandria Garcia got the Eagles going in the second half, nailing her first three pointer of the game to get the Eagles to within 31-30. The game would go back and forth before Sanders would put back a layup off an offensive rebound while getting fouled, giving the Eagles the lead at 40-39. Garcia would hit her second three pointer of the game at the 9:48 mark to give the Eagles their biggest lead of the game, 47-39. Bryn Athyn would cut the lead to 50-45 before Sanders nailed her third three pointer of the game to give the Eagles an 8 point lead. Despite the 5 point lead with a minute remaining, the Lions would tie the score up at 65 and send the game into overtime.
In overtime,
Amerisse Rogers knocked down a three pointer to give the Eagles a 68-67 lead.
Valerie Lasko made back to back layups at the 2 minute mark to give the Eagles a commanding 73-67 lead. CSE would not let the Lions get any closer, winning the game 76-71.
