Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team (5-4, 4-1 NEAC) dropped their first NEAC contest of the year, falling to Gallaudet University, 78-66, on Sunday.
In the first half, the Eagles struggled to handle the press as Gallaudet jumped out to a 10-4 lead. Alexandra Garcia got the Eagles back in the game, nailing back-to-back three-pointers to give the Eagles their first lead of the game at 14-12. The Eagles intensified pressure of their own on defense, forcing 11 first-half turnovers. With the Eagles leading 21-20,
Amerisse Rogers knocked down back-to-back shots to open up a five-point lead. With 7 seconds remaining in the half,
Alivia Roseboro came up with a big steal and a fast break layup, resulting in an and-one. Despite missing the free throw, the Eagles took a 31-28 lead into the break.
The Bison jumped out of the gate quickly in the second half, going on a 10-0 run to take a 38-31 lead. The Eagles would tighten up their defense, forcing three consecutive turnovers leading to four fast break points. With 11 minutes remaining, Garcia nailed a three-pointer in the corner while getting fouled, completing the 4-point play. The Eagles would cut the lead to 7 before the Bison went on a 5-0 run to open up a 12-point lead. CSE could not overcome the double-digit deficit, dropping the contest, 78-66.
Alexandria Garcia led the Eagles with 15 points including 3 three-pointers.
Danesha Triplett added 12 points and six rebounds. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Lancaster Bible for a 7pm tip-off.
