Rosemont, P.A.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team split their 2 matches on Saturday, defeating Rosemont 3-0, and losing to Alvernia 3-1.
In game 1 vs Rosemont, CSE took an early 4-2 lead thanks to back to back errors by Rosemont. Rosemont would fight back however, taking a 12-7 lead midway through set 1. The Eagles would come back to tie things up at 22 thanks to a service ace by Nicole Morera. The Eagles couldn't complete the comeback however, losing the set 27-25.
Morera would get the Eagles out ahead in set 2-0, scoring 3 service aces to go ahead 4-0. CSE would continue to up the lead, gaining a 13-7 lead midway through the set. Amy Cooper would add 5 straight service points to increase the lead to 8. CSE would not lose the lead, taking the set 25-11.
After taking the third set 26-24, the Eagles would quickly jump out to a 7-0 lead thanks to the great serving by Nicole Morera. Rosemont would fight back to get within 4, before Ayesha Brannon would put the Eagles back ahead at 14-5. Rosemont would continue to fight back, tying the score up late at 22. Up 24-23, Nicole Morera put away the winning spike, giving the Eagles the 3-1 match victory.
The Eagles looked to sweep the tri-match in game 2 vs. Alvernia College. Tied at 4, Kiana Cunningham served 4 straight points to give the Eagles an 8-4 lead. Alvernia would hang in the set, tying the score up at 13 midway through the first set. Both teams would trade points to see the set tied up at 19. The Eagles could not keep up the scoring as Alvernia took the last 6 points, taking the set 25-20.
After dropping the second set 25-14, the Eagles found themselves trailing 2-0 going into set 3. Cunningham gave the Eagles a lead when she served back to back points, giving CSE the 7-4 lead. Alvernia would fight back to take a 13-10 lead. Continuing to fight back, Brannon would put away a kill to give the Eagles the 22-21 lead. CSE coudn't hold on as Alvernia took closed out the match 25-23.
The Eagles return to action on Wendesday when they host Yeshiva University at 8 pm.
