Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's volleyball team remained undefeated on Saturday, defeating Old Westbury, 3-0.
Just like yesterday, CSE got out to an early 3-1 lead thanks to back to back points buy Katie Cooper. Old Westbury would battle back to tie the score up at 6. Cooper would continue to add on points, scoring 4 straight service points, leading to an Old Westbury timeout. After just entering the game, Lynette Hardy served back to back points including an ace, giving the Eagles a 16-8 lead. CSE continued to pour on the points, upping the score to 22-13, leading to another Old Westbury timeout. Ayesha Brannon ended the first set for the Eagles, hitting a beautifully placed service ace, giving the Eagles the 25-13 set 1 win.
CSE would come storming out of the gate in set 2, scoring the first 14 points thanks to Nicole Morera's serving, leading to another timeout. Morera would continue the dominating serving after the timeout, winning 5 more points to take a 19-0 lead. CSE would continue to force Old Westbury to make unforced errors, expanding the lead to 23-0. Katie Cooper would put away another kill to extend it to 24-0. The Eagles ended up taking the next point, and shutting out Old Westbury in the set for the first time in school history.
The Eagles would win the first point in set 3 before Old Westbury took the next point. That ended a streak of 38 straight points for the Eagles, a new school record. Old Westbury would battle hard in set 3, taking an 8-6 lead. Ayesha Brannon got the Eagles back into the game, scoring a service ace and bringing the Eagles to within 1. Brannon would add 2 more points while serving, giving the Eagles a 15-14 lead. Both teams would trade points as the Eagles found themselves up 19-17. Morera added a nice kill late in the match to give the Eagles a 22-18 lead. Old Westbury would make a late comeback to square things up at 24. CSE however would take the final 2 points to win the final set 26-24.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rutgers-Newark at 7 pm.
