CSE Soccer Drops Home Opener

Morristown, N.J.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's soccer team scored their first goal of the season, but fell to Gwynedd Mercy 10-1 on Friday.

CSE's defense looked strong early when freshman goalkeeper Mariah Lavornia made her first save of her career. The defense couldn't sustain the shutout for long however, when Gwynedd Mercy scored 2 early goals to take a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game.  Following a foul inside the box by Emmanuella Dorcent, the Griffins added another goal on a penalty kick to go up 3-0. The Griffins would add another goal at the 25 minute make to take a 4-0 lead halfway through the first half. Valerie Lasko and Emmanuella Dorcent each had a shot on goal for the Eagles in the first half. Gwynedd Mercy would add another goal before the break to take a 5-0 lead into half.

Gwynedd Mercy picked things up where they left off to start the second half, scoring just a minute in to take a 6-0 lead. The Griffins would add another goal a few minutes later to go up by 7. Brianna Fedorich had one of the best chance to score for the Eagles in the second half, ripping a free kick that was saved by Gwynedd Mercy. With 12:26 remaining in the game, Grace Bailey put home a beautiful crossing pass from Valerie Lasko, scoring the first goal of the year for the Eagles. Unfortunately for the Eagles they couldn't muster any more goals, falling to Gwynedd Mercy 10-1. Mariah Lavornia finished with 15 saves in net for the Eagles.
