Washington, D.C.- The College of Saint Elizabeth's basketball team got their first win of the season, defeating Gallaudet University, 66-59, on Saturday.
Playing in their first NEAC game of the year, the Eagles jumped out to an early 12-8 lead thanks to
Valerie Lasko's driving layup. Freshman
Alexandria Garcia opened up a five-point lead after nailing a corner 3-pointer. The Bison from Gallaudet would not go away, tying the game at 27-27 with 3:26 minutes remaining in the first half. In the next two minutes, CSE would go on a 10-0 run to open up their first double-digit lead of the game. The Eagles would continue to close the rest of the half out strong, taking a 37-31 lead into the break.
CSE came out of the gate hot in the second half as
Amerisse Rogers drained a jumper to open up a 12-point lead. The Bison would trim the lead to seven before newcomer
Christine Grispart grabbed an offensive board, and put back the layup to give the Eagles a 51-42 lead. Gallaudet would continue to make things interesting, cutting the lead to three with 8:38 remaining in the game. Despite the comeback by Gallaudet, the Eagles would not let them get any closer than three, as
Alivia Roseboro nailed a jumper from the corner to re-open a nine-point lead with two minutes remaining. CSE would close out the last two minutes with a 66-59 victory.
CSE improved to 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in the NEAC. CSE returns to action on December 7th when they travel to Wilson College at 1 p.m.
