MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Saint Elizabeth University men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a pair of home contests this week, taking on Kean University on Tuesday before battling Hunter College to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at the St. Elizabeth Soccer Field.
The Eagles finished their opening week with a 0-1-1 overall record and showed a strong response in their second match of the season.
Eagles Fall to Kean in Season Opener
Saint Elizabeth opened the 2026 campaign against Kean on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-1 to the Cougars.
Despite the final score, the Eagles generated several opportunities offensively, finishing the match with 12 shots, including eight on goal.
Saint Elizabeth continued to battle through the final whistle and broke through in the 90th minute. Tugay Bozogluer found the back of the net at the 89:21 mark for his first goal of the season, putting the Eagles on the scoreboard before the final whistle.
In goal, Andrew Gonzalez played all 90 minutes and recorded 10 saves for the Eagles.
Saint Elizabeth Responds With 1-1 Draw Against Hunter
The Eagles responded with a much stronger performance Saturday afternoon against Hunter College, earning a 1-1 draw.
Saint Elizabeth controlled much of the offensive pressure, outshooting Hunter 15-12 for the match. The Eagles were particularly aggressive in the opening half, holding a 9-1 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes.
After a scoreless first half, Hunter broke through at the 64:52 mark when Luciano Aguirre scored off an assist from Georgios Tsiakas to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.
Saint Elizabeth answered less than 12 minutes later. Brandon Quishpi stepped to the penalty spot in the 76th minute and converted the opportunity for his first goal of the season, leveling the match at 1-1.
Gonzalez once again went the full 90 minutes in goal, making four saves while allowing just one goal.
The Eagles continued to push for the game-winner in the closing minutes, with Quishpi recording the final shot of the match as the two sides finished even at 1-1.
