FLEMINGTON, N.J. — St. Elizabeth University Baseball battled throughout a United East Conference doubleheader against Marywood on April 2 at Diamond Nation, dropping both contests by scores of 9-5 and 11-6.
Game 1: Marywood 9, St. Elizabeth 5
Marywood jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring seven runs over the first two innings, but the Eagles responded with a strong push in the second inning to cut into the deficit.
St. Elizabeth plated three runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a clutch two-run triple from Curtis Battle. Owen Murphy also drove in a run as the Eagles trimmed the margin to 7-3.
The Eagles added another run in the fifth and one more in the seventh, continuing to apply pressure late in the game. Trevor Policastro led the offense with two hits, while Sam Porch Jr. added two hits of his own. Battle finished with two RBI, and Murphy contributed an RBI double in the loss.
Game 2: Marywood 11, St. Elizabeth 6
In game two, St. Elizabeth once again showed resilience after falling behind early.
Trailing 5-1 through the middle innings, the Eagles responded with a two-run fifth inning to make it a 5-3 game. Curtis Battle drove in a run with an RBI double before Harrison Curran followed with an RBI single to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
Marywood extended its lead with a four-run seventh inning and added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, but the Eagles kept battling until the final out.
In the bottom of the ninth, St. Elizabeth scored three times as Curran and Sam Porch Jr. each delivered RBI singles. Porch finished with two hits and two RBI, while Curran also drove in two runs. Battle added two RBI, and Chris Valencia scored twice in the 11-6 finale.
