SEU Softball Downs DII Chestnut Hill, Falls in Extras on Day 3 in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The St. Elizabeth University softball team split a pair of games on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, earning a 5–1 win over Chestnut Hill before dropping a tightly contested 1–0 extra-inning game to Waynesburg.


Game 1: St. Elizabeth 5, Chestnut Hill 1

St. Elizabeth responded after an early deficit to secure a 5–1 victory over Chestnut Hill in the opening game of the day.

Chestnut Hill took a 1–0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the Eagles answered in the second. Grace Bobbie tied the game with an RBI single that brought home Olivia Douglas.

The Eagles broke the game open in the sixth inning. Jadyn Barker and Savannah VanWinkle reached base to set up Josilynn Garcia, who drove in Barker with an RBI single up the middle. Bobbie followed with another clutch hit, delivering an RBI single to score Vanwinkle and extend the lead.

St. Elizabeth added two more runs in the seventh inning. Barker recorded a sacrifice fly to score Katerra Lutes, and Vanwinkle drove in Samantha Hemhauser on a groundout to make it 5–1.

Bobbie led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Barker added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

In the circle, Kami DeGaetani delivered a strong performance, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run and striking out five to earn the victory.


Game 2: Waynesburg 1, St. Elizabeth 0 (8 innings)

Game two featured a pitching duel that remained scoreless through seven innings before Waynesburg walked off with a 1–0 win in the eighth.

Jazmin Frias was outstanding for the Eagles, throwing 7.2 innings while allowing just four hits and no earned runs, striking out four batters.

St. Elizabeth generated several scoring opportunities and finished with five hits on the afternoon. Isabella Hanos, Josilynn Garcia, Isabell Edwards, Savannah Vanwinkle, and Deanna McIntosh each recorded a hit for the Eagles.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the eighth inning when Waynesburg used the international tiebreaker runner to its advantage. After advancing the runner, Graeson Grubbs lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home the winning run.
