Eagles Split Myrtle Beach Matchups, Defeat SUNY Delhi Before Falling to Grove City

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The St. Elizabeth University softball team split a pair of games Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, opening the day with a 9–1 victory over SUNY Delhi before falling to Grove City, 19–9.

St. Elizabeth 9, SUNY Delhi 1

The Eagles used a big third inning and a dominant performance in the circle from Kami DeGaetani to secure their first win of the day.

SUNY Delhi struck first in the opening inning, but St. Elizabeth responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take control. Leidy Soto Leyba delivered a two-run double and Savannah Vanwinkle followed with an RBI triple to highlight the rally.

Vanwinkle continued to lead the offense, finishing with four RBIs, including a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and two more RBIs in the sixth. Jadyn Barker added two RBIs, while Soto Leyba drove in two runs of her own.

DeGaetani earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on seven hits and striking out four over six innings.

Grove City 19, St. Elizabeth 9

In the second game of the day, St. Elizabeth jumped out to a quick start but could not keep pace with Grove City's offense.

The Wolverines scored three runs in the first inning before St. Elizabeth answered with three runs of their own to tie the game. Mia Testa drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run, while Leidy Soto Leyba and Rylee Sullivan each brought home runs on sacrifice plays.

Grove City broke the game open with a nine-run second inning and added insurance runs later in the game.

Despite the loss, the Eagles produced 13 hits. Isabella Hanos led the way with three hits and two runs scored, while Savannah VanWinkle collected two hits and two runs. Mia Testa drove in three runs, and Rylee Sullivan added two RBIs.
