SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Saint Elizabeth University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Sweet Briar Tri-Match, earning a straight-set victory over host Sweet Briar before falling to Gallaudet in three sets. The victory over Sweet Briar marked head coach Bron Schuler's first win at the helm of the Saint Elizabeth program.
The Eagles opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Sweet Briar, taking the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 26-24. Saint Elizabeth finished the match with 36 kills, 32 assists, 42 digs and 13 service aces while hitting .174 as a team.
Jordan Hunter led the Eagles offensively with 11 kills on 20 attempts with just two errors, finishing with a .450 hitting percentage. Dadlyna Louis added eight kills while hitting .267. Ericka Menaling Trajano directed the offense with 23 assists while also contributing four kills, three service aces and five digs.
Marissa Jean Baptiste turned in a strong all-around performance with four kills, three aces, nine digs and the Eagles' lone solo block. Amiyah Freeman added 10 digs, while Dani Villafuerte led the defensive effort with 15 digs. Elizabeth McGreevy recorded four of Saint Elizabeth's 13 service aces.
After the opening victory, Saint Elizabeth faced an unbeaten Gallaudet squad in the second match of the tri-match. The Eagles battled in the opening set before Gallaudet pulled away for a 25-20 victory, then took the next two sets 25-14 and 25-14 to complete the sweep.
Jean Baptiste paced Saint Elizabeth in the second match with five kills, two service aces and six digs. Louis contributed three kills along with a solo block and a block assist, while Victoria Compton handed out a team-high 10 assists.
Villafuerte finished with six digs and two aces, while McGreevy added three digs, an ace and a block assist. The Eagles recorded seven service aces and four total blocks against Gallaudet.
Saint Elizabeth finished the Sweet Briar Tri-Match with a 1-1 record, highlighted by the sweep of Sweet Briar that gave Schuler his first victory as head coach of the Eagles.
