The Saint Elizabeth University women's basketball team opened their 2025–26 season in impressive fashion, cruising to an 81–50 victory over Penn State Berks on Friday night at the Beaver Athletics & Wellness Center.
The Eagles came out firing, jumping ahead 23–12 after the first quarter and never looking back. SEU maintained steady production throughout, scoring 18 points in both the second and third quarters before closing strong with 22 in the final period.
Ahjionae Cobb led all scorers with a stellar 31-point performance, connecting on 12-of-21 shots from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range. Elyssa Russo orchestrated the offense with an impressive 13 assists to go along with 8 rebounds and 10 points, nearly notching a triple-double. Mya Davis added 12 points, all coming from beyond the arc, while Jakayla Jenkins contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals off the bench.
The Eagles showcased balance and hustle across the board — outrebounding Berks 50–46 and forcing 23 turnovers, which led to 28 points off turnovers and 22 fast-break points. SEU also moved the ball well, finishing with 22 assists on 31 made field goals.
Saint Elizabeth's defensive pressure stifled Penn State Berks, limiting the Lions to 30% shooting and just 9 points in the third quarter. Hailey Miller paced Berks with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Gabrielle Merritt added 11 points.
With the win, SEU starts the season 1–0 and will look to build on their strong start as they get ready for the Battle of Madison Ave. on Tuesday, November 11th, as they will face FDU-Florham, with tip-off set for 5:00PM.
