Men's Basketball Overcomes 11-point deficit to stun Bryn Athyn

The Saint Elizabeth Men's Basketball team entered Monday night with a record of 1-5 against Bryn Athyn College under head coach James Adams including 0-2 this season. The Eagles were determined to get their revenge in the United East Skye Division semifinals and did just that. With the victory, the Eagles advance to the United East Skye Division final and boast a 17-10 record. Bryn Athyn ends their season at 17-9 after breaking many program records this season.

Although the Lions jumped out to an early lead, the Eagles never stopped fighting. Despite being down by 12 points at one point in the first half, the Eagles were able to claw back to trail by only 5 points at halftime. The second half saw the Eagles slowly chip away at the Lions lead thanks to 51 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent shooting from the three point line. The Eagles finally took the lead with 59 seconds left in the game on a floater by Jonathan Ramos. The Lions would then go to the basket and get fouled attempting a layup. After making only one of two free throws, the Eagles would advance the ball to half court and call a timeout with 29 seconds remaining. After a foul and an additional timeout, Nate Thompson drove to the basket with authority to score a layup with 9 seconds remaining. The Lions would try to quickly inbound the basketball but the pass was stolen by Ramos who was later fouled. Ramos would make one of two free throws to give the Eagles a 3-point lead. The Lions were not able to get off a three point attempt as time expired and the Eagles along with their fans celebrated the upset win.

Thompson, who was named Skye Division Defensive Player of the Week earlier today, finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. D'Angelo Blackmond recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Tye-Rell Monroe also scored 12 points and was efficient from the free throw line, hitting 6 of 7 attempts. Ramos ended with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Malamin Kaba hit two three-pointers on his way to 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Tyrese Conover also contributed 6 points.

The Eagles will travel to Wilson College on Wednesday night for the United East Skye Division Finals. Tip-off is set for 7pm in Chambersburg, PA at the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Field House.
