Saint Elizabeth Women's Basketball Team defeated Wilson College, 72-68, in an overtime thriller Saturday afternoon for their fifth straight win.
Off the back of clinching a berth to the CSAC playoffs, the Eagles were tested for all 45 minutes of Saturday's contest against the Phoenix.
Destiny Battle lead the game in points (27), assists (9), steals (9), and finished one rebound shy of a double double.
Kolby Lynch finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Both Battle and Lynch have been shortlisted for CSAC Player of the Week during the weaning weeks of the season. The victory takes the Eagles to 12-4 in CSAC play and 15-8 for the season.
In the final minute of the extra period, Battle, Lynch and
Aryanna Baytops manufactured big time turnovers, leading a 5-0 run to end the game. The first was an errant pass that Lynch got her hands on. An outlet pass from
Herbina Exume found Battle in stride, who took it coast to coast with the silkiest finish you will see all week.
Wilson called timeout after losing the lead for the first time since the beginning of OT. Battle sniffed out the designed play for her ninth steal of the game. Wilson were forced to foul, and sent Battle to the line to add to her game high tally.
With five seconds left to go, Wilson had one more chance to force another period of basketball. But on her fourth personal foul, Baytops stepped in the way of a driving Phoenix to draw an offensive charge. Wilson were forced to foul, sending Battle to the line again for her 27th point of the afternoon. The Eagles scored 30 points off turnovers and recorded 16 steals.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday February 15th against Valley Forge in the final home game of the regular season. The Eagles will celebrate Senior Night right before the 6 p.m tip-off.
