The Saint Elizabeth University men's basketball team entered tonight's game boasting a nationally ranked defense. They proved to be as good as advertised in a blowout win against Sarah Lawrence College. The Eagles improve to 4-5 overall and the Gryphons drop to 4-8 on the season.
The Eagles held Sarah Lawrence to a dismal 21 percent shooting from the field, which was a season-low for the Gryphons. In the first half, the Eagles allowed only 12 Sarah Lawrence points to end the first half with a 35-12 lead. The second half was more of the same as the Eagles used their quick scoring attack to overwhelm the Gryphons. Saint Elizabeth never trailed on its way to its largest margin of victory this season.
All 16 available Eagles played and scoring was spread among the team.
Pierre Harden was the high-point man with 12 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
Tye-Rell Monroe led the team in rebounding and finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and a season-high 3 assists.
D'Angelo Blackmond and
Jonathan Ramos both contributed 10 points each.
Lawrence Reid and
Nate Thompson were the leading scorers off the bench, each scoring 5 points. Another Eagle of note was freshman
Tyshaun Baker who scored his first collegiate points when he made two free throws with 10 seconds to go.
The Eagles will next travel to in-state rival New Jersey City University for a Saturday afternoon game. Tip off is scheduled for 2pm in Jersey City, NJ.
