Men's Basketball Looks Impressive in Conference Opener 72-63

Saint Elizabeth University men's basketball team got back to their winning ways in their first game as a part of the new United East conference. They took on conference foe Keystone College who last season finished with a conference championship game appearance. Saint Elizabeth moves to 2-4 (1-0 United East Skye Division) while Keystone falls to 0-6 (0-1 United East Skye Division).

The Eagles took the lead early in the first half and continued to keep the lead through the entire 40 minutes of play. Saint Elizabeth shot approximately 45 percent from the field while their stifling defense held Keystone to shoot only 38 percent. The Eagles exposed a huge advantage in 3pt shooting with the team shooting 9 for 22 from behind the line. The Giants struggled from deep shooting only 4 for 22 from that distance. Saint Elizabeth also dished out 20 assists which marks a team-high for the season.

Tye-Rell Monroe was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Jonathan Ramos shot 4 for 4 from three and finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Pierre Harden notched 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Lawrence Reid was active protecting the rim and registered 4 blocks. Nate Thompson was a viable contributor in the Eagles ball movement as he dished out 4 assists on the night.

The Eagles continue their conference campaign against Notre Dame University Maryland on Saturday December 2nd at home. The game will be a part of a double-header with the women's basketball team playing at 1pm and the men's team following that game at 3pm.
