Quick Start Propels Eagles Over Raptors 73-52

The Saint Elizabeth University women's basketball team raced to a quick 7-0 lead and never trailed as they defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 73-52, in a non-conference game Tuesday night. The undefeated Eagles improved to 3-0, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 0-3.
 

Junior guard Destiny Battle scored five of the Eagles' first seven points to spark the quick start. Saint Elizabeth led, 13-6, after one quarter and opened up a double-digit lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard Mya Davis to start the second quarter. Saint Elizabeth never fell below a double-digit lead the rest of the night, leading, 31-17, at halftime and building its margin to as many as 27 points (68-41) in the fourth quarter.
 

Battle scored 17 points to lead five Eagles in double figures, while Davis added 14. Sophomore guard Ahjionae Cobb tallied 12 points, while junior guard Yasminah White and sophomore guard Nacheca Joseph both added 10 points. Battle and White also notched seven and six assists, respectively. Senior forward/center Aryanna Baytops, who currently ranks first in the country in rebounds, had a huge game on the boards for the Eagles, hauling down 20 rebounds to help Saint Elizabeth hold a 53-40 advantage on the glass.
 
 
Saint Elizabeth shot 38.6 percent (32-for-83) from the floor and Rutgers-Camden shot 32.8 percent (19-for-58). The Eagles were also able to force 22 Scarlet Raptor turnovers, resulting in scoring 25 points. Fast break points was also a big advantage for Saint Elizabeth as they outscored Rutgers University-Camden 26-2.


The Eagles will have a major test this Saturday as they travel to Selinsgrove, PA to take on #12 Desales University on a neutral floor at 8pm. The game is a part of the Susquehanna Tip-Off Tournament. Head Coach Trey Bailey Strothers is an alum of the university.
